IMM President Gets Award for Changing Role of Institute

The World Brand Congress 2009 held in Mumbai recently (4 November. 2009) bestowed on Dato’ Sharifah Mohd Ismail, President of the Institute of Marketing Malaysia (IMM) with its much coveted award for “BRAND LEADERSHIP”, making her the first Malaysian woman professional to receive the international award.

The award was made in recognition of her efforts to institutionally re-position the IMM brand as the sole operable non-profit professional body in the country for professionals and practitioners in the sales and marketing sector and industry.

“The Institute’s efforts in bringing together marketing “gurus” and world speakers for the benefit of Malaysian marketers and professionals has gained due recognition and appreciation from the marketing fraternity in the region. It also provides us with a wider and continuing base for our professionals to exchange knowledge and practical information against a backdrop of global challenges,” said Dato’ Sharifah.

The World Brand Congress gave away awards for 15 categories including the Jury Special Award and the Brand Super Achiever of the Year Award. The Jury’s Special Award for Outstanding contribution to Social Marketing was given to Sangeeta Talwar, President – South Asia, Tata Tea Group & Executive Director – Tata Tea Ltd.

The Brand Super Achiever of the Year Award was given to Dr Bhaskar Das, Executive President, Bennett Coleman & Co Ltd.

About World Brand Congress

India has been host to the Asia Brand Congress since 2007. (www.asiabrandsummit.com). BACKGROUND INFO

The World Brand Congress, hosted by India was held from 4th – 5th November 2009 at Taj Lands End, Mumbai. (www.worldbrandcongress.com) The Congress is in its 18th year, while India has been a three-time host of this event to date.

The Congress is governed by an Advisory Board, comprising members who are senior professionals from the industry, and whose common objective is to serve the development of the sales and marketing fraternity.

The Congress regularly attracts more than 500 professionals from 60 countries. The members on the Jury and Advisory Council are senior professionals from the industry. The Award is conferred purely by recommendation. The team behind the World Brand Congress and the hosts has a previous experience of 17 years in hosting world-class conferences e.g. Asia Brand Congress (www.asiabrandsummit.com), India Brand Summit (www.indiabrandsummit.com) and World HRD Congress (www.worldhrdcongress.com). The attendees have been senior professionals from marketing, branding, advertising, public relations, brand strategy and corporate communications.

Nomination Process

Through a Global Research cell, which continuously presents information about the accomplishments of unique individuals. Dato’ Sharifah Ismail’s name was discussed. The council members found the information worthwhile of the recognition.

World Brand Congress provides a platform that recognises talent, contribution and competence in a very special way. The criteria adopted is:

  1. Not much is written about the professional in the media.
  2. Internal perception, within the organization and external perception is balanced on
    credibility, achievement and value contribution to the business.
  3. Track record of performance and achievements.
